The FIPS 140-2 validation of the Aegis Padlock SSD covers 11 areas of the cryptographic security system, including physical security, cryptographic key management, and design integrity.

For use by the U.S., Canadian and other federal governments, the Aegis Padlock SSD is based on Apricorn's FIPS 140-2 Level 2 encryption module, certified #3944.

Aegis Secure Key supports one independent administrator and up to four user PINs. Admin Mode controls the device's universal, programmable settings and can only be accessed with an Admin PIN. User mode is limited to basic functions of the external drive such as read/write, unlock/lock, etc. Data on the drive can also be accessed using the admin PIN in user mode.
