PIV

A Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credential is a U.S. federal government-wide credential used to access federally controlled facilities and information systems at an appropriate level of security.

PIV credentials consist of certificates and key pairs, PINs, biometrics such as fingerprints and photos, and other unique identifiers. When combined into a PIV credential, it enables the implementation of multi-factor authentication for networks, applications, and buildings.
