The StarTech.com Secure Charging USB Data Blocker USBSCHAAMF is a compact USB-A adapter designed to securely charge devices while completely disabling data transmission. The adapter features a male USB-A connector and a female USB-A connector, creating a power-only/charge-only connection between the power source and the connected device.

The male USB-A connector physically eliminates the pins responsible for data transmission. This creates a hardware barrier to USB communication – security is not dependent on the operating system, drivers, or software configuration. Only the connections necessary to power the device remain.

This solution is designed for charging smartphones, tablets, headphones, cameras, and other mobile devices from computers and public or untrusted USB ports, such as in airports, hotels, conference centers, and other public spaces. StarTech also recommends applications in corporate environments, government, defense, and education.

Important application limitation

USBSCHAAMF is not a forensic write blocker. It completely eliminates USB data communication and only allows power. Therefore, it does not allow reading data from a flash drive or hard drive while simultaneously blocking write access, unlike Guardonix or WiebeTech solutions.

Compared to the previously described Delock 60689, there is also a significant difference in charging capabilities: the StarTech USBSCHAAMF supports a maximum of 12 W, while the Delock 60689 is a more modern USB-C solution that supports USB Power Delivery up to 240 W. StarTech, on the other hand, has clearly documented the physical elimination of data pins, which is a strong argument for strictly security applications.
