Gartner (an analytical and research company specializing in the strategic use of technology and technology management) has presented its latest list of the most important strategic technology trends for 2025.

Rapid advances in artificial intelligence, computing, human-machine interaction, AI management platforms, and post-quantum cryptography are the main drivers behind this year’s Top 10 technology list, which IT leaders are addressing.

AI that Makes Decisions

In the next two to three years, agent-based AI will emerge, capable of making decisions on behalf of individuals. Rather than presenting users with options, it will be able to choose the optimal choice for the user if granted permission.

Technology Platforms for AI Management

With concerns over model bias, AI management platforms and tools will provide transparency and ethics. This will allow functions such as the explainability of AI-generated responses and help prevent harmful outcomes.

Disinformation Defense Tools

Generative AI can enable hackers to create synthetic media, such as fake videos, voices, and images that mimic people or organizations. Disinformation security tools will help organizations identify deepfakes or detect synthetic media by assessing truthfulness and tracking the spread of misinformation.

Post-Quantum Cryptography

Post-quantum cryptography standards have already been published. Within the next 2-3 years, IT leaders are expected to replace every encryption element with a post-quantum algorithm that is resistant to both classical and quantum computing attacks.

Hybrid Computing

Organizations are expected to adopt a hybrid computing approach in the future, integrating and organizing a variety of computational paradigms and technologies, including CPUs, GPUs, edge computing, quantum computing, optical processing, and DNA storage.

Energy-Efficient Computing

Organizations may soon start migrating energy-intensive algorithms to green cloud providers, rewriting algorithms to consume less energy, or more closely monitoring energy usage for generative AI. Additional technologies, such as optical, neuromorphic, and DNA storage, could bring significant performance improvements.

Enhanced Reality Through Spatial Computing

Spatial computing merges the physical and digital realms into a unified 3D space using devices like XR (extended reality) goggles. Currently, devices and applications are being developed to support just-in-time contextualization for decision-making in locations like production floors.

Robots

Over the next 10 years, robots capable of performing multiple functions will emerge. By 2030, it is predicted that 80% of people will use intelligent multifunctional robots daily.

Neuro-Enhancing Technologies

Gartner predicts that neuro-enhancing technology will require more than a decade to develop. These advancements, capable of reading and enhancing brain functions, could be used in healthcare to restore senses, such as vision or hearing. Devices will range from simple solutions like earbuds or headbands to complex integrated brain-computer interfaces.
