Claude Mythos 5 — Anthropic’s Most Advanced Model for Cybersecurity and Biological Research

Anthropic is expanding the Claude model family with solutions designed for increasingly specialized and demanding use cases. One of the most important examples is Claude Mythos 5 — a model described by Anthropic as the company’s most advanced solution for cybersecurity, biological research, and scientific applications.

Claude Mythos 5 is not a standard general-purpose model made available to all users. It is a model with very high capabilities in dual-use areas, meaning fields that can be used both for beneficial purposes and potentially harmful ones. For this reason, Anthropic restricts access to selected, verified partners and trusted access programs.

What is Claude Mythos 5?

Claude Mythos 5 is a “Mythos”-class model, which Anthropic positions as a capability level above Opus. The company states that Mythos 5 is based on the same underlying model as Claude Fable 5, but with a different safety configuration. In practice, this means that Fable 5 is a variant intended for broader use, with stronger restrictions in cybersecurity and biology, while Mythos 5 is designed for verified specialist applications.

According to Anthropic, Claude Mythos 5 has particularly strong capabilities in:

cybersecurity,
vulnerability analysis and detection,
biological research,
bioinformatics,
protein design,
scientific work,
tasks requiring long context,
autonomous work on complex problems.

This means it is not positioned as a simple chatbot. Anthropic presents it more as a specialized research tool for organizations working on the security of critical software or advanced life science projects.

Cybersecurity: A Model for Trusted Partners

One of the main application areas for Claude Mythos 5 is cybersecurity. Anthropic reports that the earlier Claude Mythos Preview model was used as part of Project Glasswing — an initiative involving, among others, Amazon Web Services, Anthropic, Apple, Broadcom, Cisco, CrowdStrike, Google, JPMorganChase, the Linux Foundation, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Palo Alto Networks. The goal of the program is to strengthen the security of critical software.

According to Anthropic, Project Glasswing partners used Claude Mythos Preview to find more than 10,000 high- or critical-severity vulnerabilities in systemically important software. Claude Mythos 5 is intended to be the next step and further development of this approach.

This is highly significant from a cybersecurity market perspective. AI models are no longer only tools for writing reports or analyzing documentation. Increasingly, they can support security teams in working with large code repositories, analyzing risk, finding bugs, and accelerating software security processes.

At the same time, Anthropic emphasizes that such capabilities are sensitive. A model that helps cyber defenders find vulnerabilities faster could also be misused by people attempting to create or automate attacks. That is why Mythos 5 is not currently a broadly available product.

Biology, Bioinformatics, and Drug Design

The second major application area for Claude Mythos 5 is biological research. Anthropic states that the model achieves very strong results in tasks related to biology, medical research, and healthcare.

According to Anthropic, the company’s internal protein design experts used Mythos 5 to accelerate selected stages of the drug design process by around ten times. In one example described by the company, the model used protein design and bioinformatics tools to perform tasks typical of a scientist: selecting binding sites, choosing and running design tools, and handling errors that appeared during the work.

Anthropic also states that Mythos 5 was able to generate new hypotheses in molecular biology. According to the company, in blind comparisons, Anthropic scientists more often chose hypotheses generated by Mythos 5 than those generated by Opus-class models. Some of these hypotheses were selected for further experimental evaluation.

This shows the direction in which AI is developing: models are increasingly able to act not only as text assistants, but also as tools supporting research work, scientific data analysis, and the generation of directions for further experiments.

Long Tasks, Agents, and Autonomous Work

Claude Mythos 5 belongs to a class of models that Anthropic describes as capable of longer autonomous work than previous generations of Claude. In practice, this means better ability to maintain goals over time, plan work in stages, use tools, and carry out complex projects without constant human supervision.

The related Claude Fable 5 model, based on the same underlying model, is described as a solution for ambitious software development tasks, large code migrations, multi-step analytical work, document-based work, visual analysis, and tool use. Fable 5 is also said to be able to write its own tests, check the results of its work, and use computer vision to evaluate whether the outcome matches the intended goal.

For businesses, this means that models of this class may gradually change how people work with AI. Instead of asking single questions and manually guiding the model step by step, users may be able to assign more complete tasks: analyzing large documentation, preparing a solution, checking for errors, developing recommendations, or carrying out a multi-stage technical process.

Availability of Claude Mythos 5

Availability of Claude Mythos 5 is limited. Anthropic initially reported that access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 had been suspended following a U.S. government export directive dated June 12, 2026. Then, on June 30, 2026, the company announced that the export controls had been lifted, that Fable 5 would return globally from July 1, 2026, and that access to Mythos 5 had been restored for selected organizations in the United States. Anthropic also declared further cooperation with the U.S. government to expand access to a broader group of domestic and international Project Glasswing partners.

This means that Mythos 5 remains a specialist model, available primarily to verified organizations rather than as a standard service for every Claude user.

Pricing and Data Policy

Anthropic states that pricing for Claude Mythos 5 starts at USD 10 per million input tokens and USD 50 per million output tokens.

An important element is also the data retention policy. Use of Mythos-class models requires acceptance of a 30-day data retention period for safety monitoring purposes. Anthropic states that the data is not used to train new Claude models or for purposes unrelated to safety. The retention period is intended to help detect misuse, jailbreaks, and false positives in safety systems.

Why Claude Mythos 5 Matters

Claude Mythos 5 shows that the AI market is entering a stage of highly specialized models that can meaningfully support expert work in critical fields. In cybersecurity, this may mean faster vulnerability detection and better protection for large software projects. In biology and medicine, it may mean faster hypothesis analysis, support for bioinformatics, and acceleration of selected stages of drug research.

At the same time, Mythos 5 also highlights the other side of AI development: the greater the model’s capabilities, the greater the need for access control, usage monitoring, safeguards, and responsible deployment.

For companies, the conclusion is clear: advanced artificial intelligence is no longer only a productivity tool. Increasingly, it is becoming part of research, security, and automation infrastructure. However, deployments of such technologies should be carried out consciously — with proper consideration of risk, security policies, data protection, and access control.
